There was a study done in Chicago on the affect an upper cervical adjustment has on blood pressure. The study proved an upper cervical chiropractic adjustment can lower blood pressure as much as 2 medications. The best part is the chiropractic adjustment has none of the dangerous side effects that the medications do. This is possible because the nerves that come out of the upper neck give parasympathetic innervation to the heart. This means these nerves carry impulses, messages from the brain, that slow down the heart and therefore lower blood pressure. If a person has a subluxation, which is a bone out of alignment that puts pressure on nerves, in this area it can prevent the heart from getting the messages to slow down. This will cause you to develop high blood pressure. If you or anyone you know has high blood pressure before they start taking the medications, get checked by a chiropractor to see if you have a subluxation in your upper neck. This might help you lower your blood pressure with out any side effects.
